This week my husband and I took the 5 hour road trip to Las Vegas. We don’t usually go anywhere for the holidays, so we decided to spend it just hanging out. We stayed for 3 nights and made sure that we went to check out the Neon Boneyard park. This amazing place is keeping old Vegas alive by displaying all of the old signs from the casinos and businesses of the past. For a $15 donation, you get to tour the outdoor museum on a 1 hour guided tour. This place has been home to dozens of movies and hundreds of photo shoots. My photo shoot for the day was just for myself, but I can totally see bringing a couple out there or doing a fashion shoot. Because everything is fairly close together here, I couldn’t shoot with my standard lens, which is typically what I use. Instead I shot with my 16-35mm wide angle lens. This actually worked perfect because I was able to get all of the signs in, even when there were other people standing close to my frame. I’m already antsy to go back!

I haven’t done many photos at the beach lately. Its hard on my camera gear, and despite living in the beach city of San Diego, taking photos at the beach just seems so cliche. But boy am I glad I did this shoot. We had so much fun, the sunset was amazing, the light was perfect and the kids were on their best behavior. I had a really hard time narrowing it down to these ones to show. And luckily, this time of year, there aren’t as many tourists around, so all the life guard towers are empty and make an incredible spot to take photos!

During college I worked at a camera store in the mall to pay bills and so I had quick access to printing my photos. One of my coworkers there was Matt. I have literally known him since I moved to San Diego, so I was thrilled to hear that he and his wife were expecting a baby boy. They asked me to shoot some maternity photos for them and as we were deciding the types of photos to take, I told them I wanted to make sure their personalities came out. We were hugely successful in that and here are some of the resulting photos.
